Alerts Concierge

Send notifications to riders about unplanned disruptions that will impact their travel plan.

Benefit to Agency

Alerts Concierge is a highly scalable rider communication tool that can rapidly identify impacted riders and transmit thousands of notifications per minute as a low-cost, self-hosted, cloud-based service.

Benefit to Riders

Based on existing emergency communication strategies, Alerts Concierge provides impacted riders with the best opportunity to adapt their plans, leading to greater rider satisfaction.

Alerts Concierge is the open-source tech behind the MBTA’s T-Alerts service, which has sent millions of notifications to riders.

Notifications, Personalized.

Before deploying T-Alerts, the MBTA utilized another system to send subscribers notifications. While that system was cost-effective, users could subscribe to alerts on an all-or-none basis per route. Unfortunately, this approach resulted in riders receiving frequent messages about disruptions outside their typical travel times. As a result, users would subscribe to get alerts, but many would soon unsubscribe due to the volume of irrelevant notifications.

The personalization capabilities of Alerts Concierge allowed for the MBTA to provide riders with a flexible approach to subscribing that reduced the number of false positives, leading to increased subscriber retention and rider satisfaction.
